One part of me is craving a new toy. Another part of me has been feeling more anti-consumeristicalidocious lately, and I do for a fact know that the new phone would be a short-lived pleasure. So I don't know. Which part of my brain will win? - Somewhat randomly, my YouTube algo served me up a pair of videos concerning the 15 minutes of fame that "[minimalism](https://youtu.be/gvgZfrIBT4s)" received a few years back. I remember that whole trend as being rather frustrating for me - people were acting like they discovered something new in the concept of minimalism...and then they uniformly went from "amassing everything" to "curating every earthly possession," and the objects they owned still dominated their lives, just in a different way. Different expression of the same busted mindset. If you put yourself in a place where you have to count every fork you own in the drawer, those forks still have power over you. So there, I was right, and *I told you so*. the internet version of minimalism was stupid then, and it still is. (permalink: [[2026-09 September#Thursday, September 10|🔗]]) --- ## Monday, August 31 Last day of August. "Summer" the concept came to an abrupt end last week, with a weirdly early start to the school year. Hoping for a nice, long, crisp and cool autumn - a full and maybe prolonged season for once. (permalink: [[2026-08 August#Monday, August 31|🔗]]) --- ## Thursday, August 20 - Being able to sit and just participate in a meeting without simultaneously capturing notes frees up my brain to process information, and lessens anxiety that I'm going to forget something later. So no matter where we end up on the whole "is AI the devil?" question...having my little Plaud recorder working as a meeting secretary has made my life measurably better. AI recording/note transcribing is a game changer. (permalink: [[2026-08 August#Thursday, August 20|🔗]]) --- ## Wednesday, July 8 > [!attention] cd's > I prefer cd's over vinyl. My secret shame, laid bare. (permalink: [[2026-07 July#Wednesday, July 8|🔗]]) --- ## Sunday, June 21 **It's been almost a month** since my last post, and I hate to say it, but it's because I've just been through the worst month of my life. No hyperbole. I'm gathering myself, trying to find level footing. I'm going to do some writing, but it's intensely personal, and I'm not sure how much of it will make it here. However, part of me thinks that getting this spot set up right before something unimaginable happened might have been for a reason. More later. (permalink: [[2026-06 June#Sunday, June 21|🔗]]) --- ## Tuesday, May 26 - Listening to: [An interview with Steph Ango](https://relay.fm/cortex/179), CEO of Obsidian the software company. He's an immediately relatable and likeable guy, and the interview an interesting study in how a CEO's personality can shape a company and ultimately a software product. (permalink: [[2026-05 May#Tuesday, May 26|🔗]]) --- ## Wednesday, May 20 ![[IMG_1655.jpeg|375]] *This red-shouldered blackbird frequently comes over to the dead tree to watch the dogs and me walk by.* (permalink: [[2026-05 May#Wednesday, May 20|🔗]]) --- ## Tuesday, May 19 - Google I/O day. Thoughts: - It's crazy, but I feel so little at the announcement of all this amazing shit. As recently as a couple of years ago: my mind would've been blown. Today: oh god please stop talking. - I couldn't care less about tokens, token budgets or how many Quadrillion tokens were burned last quarter. - I'm about 1 hour in, and I can't believe I'm sitting here watching a keynote address that's basically about searching for things on the internet and using AI to plan a cookout or whatever. - I tapped out after 1.5 hours, though I can see that the liveblogs are ticking on. Who even are you people? *Update: Holy cow that ran almost 2 hours.* - I guess I'll listen to a podcast wrapup or something. I have nothing to add here. ### Something to read: Mounjaro & Me - I wrote a blog post about my experiences with GLP-1 meds, specifically Mounjaro. [[Mounjaro & Me|Read it here.]] (permalink: [[2026-05 May#Tuesday, May 19|🔗]]) --- ## Monday, May 18 > [!note] Bye Godaddy > Still in digital-life spring cleaning; I just transferred the last two personal domains out of godaddy. The evolution of the customer experience on godaddy's website is the most perfect case study of the [frog in the boiling water](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boiling_frog) fable you'll find anywhere on earth. > > I like being in purge mode; feels good. (permalink: [[2026-05 May#Monday, May 18|🔗]]) --- ## Friday, May 15 ### Bye Tumblr. Deleted my Tumblr blog and account. No real reason or thought behind it besides: "welp, that's enough of that." I opened "what.tumblr.com" during the site's first week of operation (I believe it was a soft-launch that I learned of through a friend). I had an off-again, not-quite-on-again relationship with the site over the years. In the beginning, it was a lighter version of blogging, engaging and fun. Before that, I always liked the microblog/tumblog (*Projectionist, anyone?*) format. Eventually they added reposting, and then it was taken over by the sort of popularity contest circle jerking that I despised...a while later it became overrun by actual porn (different type of circle jerking I guess). I had high hopes when tumblr was acquired by Automattic, but at this point let's just be honest...*clicks delete* (permalink: [[2026-05 May#Friday, May 15|🔗]]) --- <div class="home-subnav-row"> Contact Me:<br/> <a class="home-subnav-link" href="mailto:[email protected]" target="_blank"> 📧 [email protected]</a><br/> (why?) </div>
